I have had a preliminary look at the route for this, long, section. Going from North Foreland it looks as if there is a multiuser route I could follow past the port in Ramsgate and down to Sandwich. It would get me through and out of the urban stretch along the coast, but I need to check if it is open to horseriders. In 1968 when the law was changed to allow bicycles on bridleways the law simply permitted them, and left it to the cyclists to decide if any bit of bridleway was suitable for their use. Cyclepaths tend not to be set up in such a pragmatic way. Much of the western part of this section, probably from somewhere near Lewes, will be on the South Downs Way which offers me a wonderful long stretch off road and with easy map reading. In addition the website gives plenty of information about B&B for horses etc - long ride planning heaven!
Next section: Chichester to Winchester.
